    Research Scientist - Core Team London, UK WHAT KIND OF PROBLEMS WILL YOU BE SOLVING? Our AI looks at photos of damage incurred during car accidents, and is able to assess the full extent of damage to the vehicle. This involves complex visual reasoning over nested expert tasks over all parts of the car from the panels to the supporting screws, requiring both state-of-the-art computer vision and deep learning techniques and expert knowledge to solve. In the core research team, this means working on challenging research problems in areas such as: multi-image and task reasoning, domain adaptation, image segmentation and combined visual / metadata learning. WHERE WILL YOU HAVE IMPACT? We are always looking for someone to bring new perspectives to the team, with a strong interest in creative problem solving and taking on some of the toughest applied research challenges from a multitude of different angles, all towards the end goal of creating an AI visual expert. Our approach is collaborative, and through working with others on the team and also using direct input from our customers, you will help to expand the reach and scope of our ML solution, working on the underlying tech that will drive step-changes in what we can offer our customers in our AI-first products. As a Research Scientist in the core team, you will: Work on novel solutions to some of the biggest applied research challenges in expert visual reasoning and intelligence which form the foundation of our technology. Design, implement and evaluate models combining rich visual and metadata cues to achieve this. Communicate the work of the research team both internally and externally and engage in collaborations to bring the team’s work to product. Requirements: PhD degree in Computer Science (or related quantitative field) or MS degree in Computer Science with equivalent practical research experience. Proven track-record of solving complex problems with machine learning and computer vision. Passionate about bringing impact to the world through ML / CV. Hands on experience using one of the following deep learning libraries: Tensorflow, PyTorch, Theano or similar. Preferred: Experience applying ML to real-world problems.

    The Meaningful Interactions Lab (Mintlab), a research group of the faculty of Social Sciences at KU Leuven, performs both fundamental and applied Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) research from the perspectives of the Social Sciences and the Humanities. Our research projects revolve around five main topics: Social Interactions in Online Media; Media Convergence in a Digital Society; Children, Media and Design; Human Agency in a Data-Driven World; and Emerging Technologies. Key in our approach is actively engaging with various stakeholders in a reflective research, design and dissemination process. Our goal is to question, envision and encourage meaningful interactions through technology that make a difference in people's lives. ‍ Website unit ‍Responsibilities ‍ You will conduct applied research in the domain of Human-Computer Interaction, as part of contract research in collaboration with a company. Goal of this project is to come up with, create and evaluate interface elements for a financial tool, using gamification, nudging and countering cognitive and emotional biases. Your tasks: Set-up, execution and analysis of interviews, co-design workshops, prototyping and controlled experiments with end-users based on ‘cognitive de-biasing’ and gamification techniques ‍ ‍Profile ‍ We expect: A university diploma or equal, preferably in Social Sciences, Psychology, Product Design, Interaction Design or HCI Knowledge of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) or User Experience (UX) and qualitative and/or quantitative research methdos in these domains Knowledge of statistical software (e.g SPSS) and analysis Eager to learn and with interest in academic research Good English writing and speaking skills Being able to work both indepently and in a team Additional skills: Experience with writing academic articles and reports in English Knowledge of cognitive biases, gamification, nudging and/or persuasive design ‍Offer ‍ A full-time contract of 6 months with attractive remuneration A flexible and dynamic work environment in a reputed research group Intensive collaboration with other researchers and partners from industry The possibility to show initiative and take up responsibility ‍Interested?
